A domestic abuse charity has condemned a comment made on reality TV show The Only Way is Essex that appeared to condone domestic abuse against men.
During last night’s episode Sam Faiers admitted to slapping her ex-boyfriend Joey Essex around the face and pushing him during an argument.
She said: “In Dubai we had a massive row and I pushed him and I slapped him around the face. It was only a slap. Everyone slaps their boyfriend once, when they deserve it.”
Mark Brooks, chairman of ManKind, a charity that provides support for male victims of domestic abuse, said: “Domestic abuse is never acceptable and the comments made on TOWIE were completely wrong.
“It shows that hitting a man is wrongly still viewed as acceptable when rightly the producers would never have allowed Joey Essex to make the same comment if he ever assaulted Sam Faiers.”
“This shows the lack of acceptance by society that men are victims of domestic abuse too,” he added.
ITV, which broadcasts TOWIE, has recently tackled the subject of male victims of domestic abuse in a Coronation Street storyline involving Tyrone Dobbs and his aggressive partner Kirsty Soames.
Representatives for the hit ITV show did not return a call for comment.

Just have to state that while women are shown and told that they are sexy, that they are sexual creatures, men are not. Look at those photos. The guy is standing there, utilitarian at best. While the woman is sexy, enticing.
Yes, they are showing the woman this way to market to men… but men do not shop for unisex clothing, not typically at least. Men shop for men’s clothing and they see the man and do not think of the shirt as possibly being sexy. Men have a serious issue with the very concept of someone seeing them as being desirable, even when it comes to significant others. And these types of ads perpetuate such issues. The guy should be pictured as sexily as the woman is, at the very least.

Just checked this myself and yep, it’s true. And doesn’t this just epitomise so much of modern feminist discourse, particularly on tumblr. So much of it is built on lies- relatively trivial lies by omission like this one, more serious lies by omission such as conveniently forgetting to mention that the rates of rape and DV in the western world are roughly equivalent (although I’m sure for some, that’s not just a lie by omission but an outright untruth, proudly parroted in the face of evidence); lies by I-am-too-stupid-or-too-lazy-to-properly-understand-economics/science/statistics such as the wage gap and the biggest lie of all- the ‘by men, for men’ model of the patriarchy. No wonder feminism is so wedded to lies when it’s entire foundation is built on them.
I know I’m sounding hyperbolic right now, but this just really gets to me. In the case of this image- whoever made it went to the pages, they saw the other pictures, they saw that the main picture for both the male and female pages was the unsexualised one and they carefully and deliberately only chose the ones that made their point and presented it as if those were the only pictures there! That is lying, no matter how you look at it. Deliberate, calculated lying. I really can’t stand behaviour like this, from anyone, for any cause, and I see feminists doing it more than anyone (well, except the creationists… just). I care passionately about the truth and that is why I could never, ever call myself a feminist. Like I said before, things like this image are just the tip of the iceberg.
In fact, if you go on the site and look at each of these pictures, you can see the thumbnails showing the other models below them, like in the screenshot. The thumbnails on the male model’s page show the sexy male pictures, but in this screenshot, the person taking the screenshot literally MOVED OVER those thumbnails to purposely hide them and make it look like they were only sexualizing the woman. Poorpitifulme said pretty much exactly my thoughts on this.

Hyung has went into the training center. He has been suffering from back disc problems, so he went into the training center righteously to serve as a public soldier. But because of that reason, he wasn’t able to proudly enlist. He wanted to go in quietly, without saying farewell to fans, and without interviews with reporters.
The reason he had to go in like this was because of some people who have outrageous thoughts like ‘If you aren’t going as normal soldier, you are a(n) asshole/retarded/mentally challenged’, or simply because reporters and antis make it as an ‘issue’.
It was a result (being assigned to serve as public service) he received from a health examination at the same district office as others. What did he do so wrong, to receive all those attacking comments.. Do they feel superior by putting those attacking comments?
No matter what the reason is, I feel that celebrities get cursed if they aren’t going as a marine or commando. No matter if they are going as normal soldier or public soldier. People curse, saying they are serving as ‘celebrity soldiers’, ‘part of army band’, and ‘public soldier’..
If you or someone around you served as public soldier or ‘celebrity soldier’, would you curse at them like this? Or would you be jealous?
